Granit Xhaka’s bad week has just got a whole lot worse after the Arsenal midfielder found himself accused of racially abusing a member of British Airways staff.
Following hot on the heels of his idiotic red card against West Ham, the Albanian spent his Tuesday morning being interviewed by police after an incident at Heathrow the previous evening.
According to the Independent, Xhaka was seeing off a friend – fellow footballer Leonard Lekaj, who plays in the German lower leagues – at Terminal 5 when he became embroiled in a tiff with the BA check-in staff.
After Lekaj was stopped from boarding the flight after missing the check-in deadline, Xhaka allegedly flew off the handle and called the staff member a “f**king white bitch” – claims that have been substantiated by other members of the BA team.
For the record, Xhaka denies that he used the language in question, but nevertheless the Metropolitan police have since confirmed that they are looking into an incident of alleged racial abuse.
Police were called at 19:29hrs on Monday, 23rd January following an allegation that a member of staff had been racially abused at Heathrow Airport, Terminal Five.
The allegation was made by a third party.
Officers attended and spoke with a man in his 20s. He was not arrested. He voluntarily attended a west London police station where he was interviewed under caution.
Dear, oh dear, oh dear.
