As Arsenal slumped to yet another feeble defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, the German giant’s media team were in no mood to go easy on Arsene Wenger’s frail collective.
Prior to the current campaign, Bayern has eliminated Arsenal in each of the two side’s previous three knockout encounters, including in two of the last four seasons.
Mirroring last season’s result in the Last 16 at the Allianz Arena, the 5-1 scoreline was a fair reflection of a game which saw the Gunners, in trademark fashion, stage a painful capitulation in the second-half after going in 1-1 at the break.
Not surprisingly, Bayern’s social media team seized upon that damning scoreline, Tweeting “Same again next year?”.

Ouch!
You have to feel for the north Londoners this season, Despite finally topping their group, they still managed to draw one of the heavyweight sides in the knockout stages of the competition.
Indeed, those pesky Bayern Twitter operatives were at it even before the draw was made last December…
. @Arsenal @ChampionsLeague Should we just book our travel to London now? 🏆 pic.twitter.com/qkZvZZLsWQ

And then again, amusingly, before the FA Cup draw in January…

It looks as though Arsenal are stuck in a perpetual cycle of doom with Bayern Munich at its heart.
As for the second leg of the tie, expect Arsenal to stick to the script at the Emirates and produce a valiant display which falls just short of the requisite result, say a 3-0 home win!
