Poor old Aston Villa have endured a terrible start to the Championship season after being relegated from the top-flight earlier this year. Despite spending a huge amount of money on players this summer, the Villans find themselves 19th in the division, with a second successive relegation a definite possibility.
The Birmingham club sacked Roberto Di Matteo this week, prompting Virgin Trains of all people, to have a cheeky pop at Villa’s sorry state of affairs on Twitter.
In a reference to Villa’s new managerial vacancy, Virgin Trains social media folk Tweeted a photo of an empty train carriage, with the words “With Roberto Di Matteo leaving, the next batch of potential #AVFC managers have just left for Birmingham New Street…”.

However, Villa quickly hit back with a fair jibe about Virgin’s questionable punctuality, which led to a nice little Twitter spat…

We call it a score draw!
And the way Villa are playing at the moment, that Virgin Trains side might well give them a decent game!
