Aston Villa 1-1 Manchester United – Premier League – 20th December 2014

Paul Lambert’s Aston Villa produced a superb, battling display against Manchester United on Saturday, with the Villans securing a precious point despite going down to 10 men.

A fit again Radamel Falcao enjoyed a rare start for United and the Colombian showed off his fox-in-the-box talents with a fine headed goal in the second-half. That goal came after the hosts had taken the lead, against the run of play, on 18 minutes. Christian Benteke was the scorer for the Villans, with the Belgian firing home a magnificent effort. Overall, United dominated possession and things got even harder for Villa when Gabriel Agbonlahor was extremely harshly shown red for a challenge on former-Villan Ashley Young just after the hour-mark. However, the Birmingham giants held on and could even have won it themselves late on.

Louis Van Gaal’s side stay third, seven points behind both Chelsea and Man City while Aston Villa are 12th.
