A late own-goal from Tyler Blackett all but handed Arsenal a third-place finish in this season’s Premier League after a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

The hosts started well against an Arsenal side who looked somewhat disinterested.

The opening goal eventually came on the half-hour mark, with an unmarked Ander Herrera firing home at the far post after good work from Ashley Young.

The Gunners continued to tread water, and didn’t muster a single shot in the first period.

On the hour-mark, Falcao was subbed off in what was probably a farewell performance at Old Trafford.

Arsene Wenger’s men eventually started to improved, with Olivier Giroud going close.

Aaron Ramsey was then foiled by Marcos Rojo after the Welshman had dinked the ball over David De Gea.

The object of Real Madrid’s affections De Gea then had to go off with a hamstring injury, with the Old Trafford faithful no doubt wondering if they’d ever see him again in a United shirt.

Debutante sub Victor Valdes had hardly put his gloves on when the Gunners equalised, after Theo Walcott’s cross was turned into his own goal by defender Blackett.

Arsenal pushed for a winner but ultimately the game would end all-square.

The result suited Arsene Wenger more, with the the Gunners going two points clear of United, and with a game in hand.
