The big transfer knockings coming out of Ligue 1 this morning is the news that Manchester United are reported to have lodged a huge £36million bid in an attempt to sway Monaco into parting with striker Anthony Martial.

Yep. Thirty six million pounds.

First reported by Le Parisien and subsequently re-trotted by several English-based sources, it’s being mooted that United are on the brink of flogging Javier Hernandez to Bayer Leverkusen for £12million and are planning to replace the littlest pea with Martial – a 19-year-old forward who scored nine goals in Ligue 1 last season.

This all coming less that one day after Louis van Gaal promised that United wouldn’t be suckered into making any panic buys to address their lack of cutting edge before the transfer window closes on Tuesday evening.

Again: Thirty six million pounds.
