Manchester United suffered a shock defeat away to Brighton on Sunday, with the Red Devils shipping three first0-half goals on their way to a 3-1 defeat.

Brighton were victorious against United at the Amex back in May and they impressed from the start.

Glenn Murray opened the scoring on 25 minutes, with the seasoned hitman producing a clever flick from a Solly March centre.

Just two minutes later, the Seagulls were 2-0 up, with Irish defender Shane Duffy scoring after poor defending from the Manchester giants.

United were thoroughly disappointing in the first period, although they did get a goal back on 34 minutes, with Romelu Lukaku heading home a Luke Shaw pass.

However, the hosts would regain their two-goal advantage just before half-time after Eric Bailly had felled Pascal Gross in the box.

The German playmaker dusted himself down before (just about) converting the resulting penalty to see the south-coast side go in 3-1 at the break.

In the second-half, United had much of the possession but struggled to create the requisite goal-scoring chances as Brighton stayed organised.

At the death, Paul Pogba got one back for United from the penalty spot, after sub Marouane Fellaini had been fouled in the box.

However, it was too little too late for Jose Mourinho’s men, who were deservedly beaten by Chris Hughton’s solid side.

Despite spending an absolute fortune on his squad, Mourinho still looks some way short of producing a side capable of living with their noisy neighbours City.

As for Brighton, cheered on by their superb home support, they look well capable of yet another satisfying campaign.

  1. Comfy Chair says:

Since United’s playing field isn’t even in the City of Manchester, wouldn’t that make THEM the neighbors??

  2. John says:

Maybe because they won 5 league titles in 124 years of poor history and nobody outside Manchester knew them until someone from Dubai bought that tiny decadent club 10 years ago and ”invested” crazy oil money there?

    • Comfy Chair says:

Yes, City ruined the entire game because they brought the oil money in…Gotta play the game to stand a chance of succeeding, no?
