Brazilian legend Kaka has announced that he’ll be leaving Orlando City at the end of the current MLS season.
The former Brazil, Real Madrid and AC Milan playmaker has enjoyed a successful period in the USA since joining Orlando City in 2014, registering 25 goals and provided 19 assists in 77 games and appearing in three MLS All-Star games.
However, he announced the decision at a press conference, saying:
As you all know, my contract with Orlando City ends this year. My final decision is not to renew.
The midfielder, who won the Champions League with AC Milan in 2007, also posted the customary gushing farewell message to fans on Instagram.
The moment now is to say goodbye, but my heart is full of happiness and joy, proud and honored to end another wining cycle. Sunday I will play my last official match with the Orlando City jersey in Orlando. I would like to thank Flávio, Alexandre and Diogo for believing that I could be an important part of this puzzle. Thank you to all the Fans for always supporting the team, crowded the stadium and didn’t hesitate to support us at any time, even in the hardest moments. Thanks to all the community that have embraced soccer in an incredible way and my fellow teammates who are and were always beside me, fighting for each ball. Also, thanks to the technical staff that gave us full support, the directors, employees who built this Club with happiness and enthusiasm from the backstage. Thanks to the press, to the sponsors and all of you that always supported me through these amazing 3 years of success and achievements. I will keep on supporting, cheering and believing in the club and will forever be a Lion. Excited for the upcoming professional challenges. Thank you Orlando! Obrigado Orlando. Kaká.
Reports suggest that the 35-year-old will play his last official game with Orlando on Sunday against Columbus Crew.
While hinting that he may call time on his playing career for good, Kaka may still look to extend his career elsewhere, while returning to Orlando as an ambassador for the club remains another possibility.
Wherever he goes and what he does, Kaka can already look back on a quite a fantastic career. Although is it wrong to suggest that he still didn’t quite make the most of his exquisite talents?
