Arsenal are set to ask ‘veteran’ defender William Gallas to take a massive pay cut in order to remain at the club.
The 32-year-old centre-back’s current contract with The Gunners expires in July and negotiations over a new deal are at a standstill, due to the club’s policy of only offering players over 30 twelve-month extensions.
Gallas is pushing for a two year deal and Arsenal are reportedly now willing to make an exception for the Frenchman, with one proviso – He has to agree to a 50% pay cut, which would see his weekly wages halved from £80,000 to only £40,000. Poor lamb.
It’s not all fiscal doom and gloom though, as Gallas will also receive a £500,000 bonus when he enters the final year of the deal.
Should ‘Old Bill’ reject this proposal – as I’m sure he will – AC Milan, Roma, Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille are all known to be waiting in the wings to snap him up on a free transfer.
