Southampton fans will be bracing themselves for yet another summer exodus of star players, with the likes of Nathaniel Clyne and Morgan Schneiderlin expected to leave St. Mary’s – although, to be fair, last summer’s clearout didn’t do the Saints too much harm , did it?

Anyway, while the aforementioned Frenchman Schneiderlin has been the one linked with a move to Arsenal, his midfield partner Victor Wanyama is now talking up his own transfer to the Emirates.

According to ESPN, amongst others, the combative Kenyan is convinced he is on Arsene Wenger’s summer shopping list.

The former Celtic man said:

“Wenger has been talking about me, and he has let it be known he would like to sign me this summer.

“Arsenal are a great club and I’d love to play Champions League football as I loved being on that stage with Celtic.”

Which he then followed with the usual clichéd caveat…

“But we’ve had a fantastic season at Saints and I want to stay focused on helping the club qualify for Europe. Then we’ll see where I end up in the summer.”

Eager to sell himself to whoever he can, the 23-year-old then also expresses an interest in joining Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham, adding:

“If I get the chance (to join former manager Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs), maybe. You never know what will happen in the future.

“It’s nice to be linked with other clubs as it means I’m playing well.”

Make your mind up Vic! You can’t have it both ways sunshine.

Anyway, with regards to the Gunners, with Francis Coquelin shining in the ball-winning role at Arsenal, expect Wenger to eschew a move for another defensive midfielder.

Until Coquelin gets injured and the north Londoners crash out of the 2015/16 Champions League last 16 again, that is.
