‘We’re Better Than The Best’ By MLS All-Stars Might Just Be The Worst Football Song Ever Produced… (Video)

By Chris Wright

Ahead of the MLS All-Stars game against Roma this evening, several members of the squad have foisted this monstrosity upon the world…

We know it’s supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek, but still…that thing – to use the American vernacular – sucks the big one.

Still, it’s not like the Yanks have got much pedigree when it comes to football anthems – take their godawful 1990 World Cup song “Victory” for example…

Togetherness and unity means victory for you and me? Pee-bloody-uw. When a song is so bad it makes you pine for Diamond Lights, you know it hums.

Pretty sure it’s not meant to be a bit tongue in cheek, but 100% tongue in cheek. The fact it was done for Funny or Die is kind of a tell.

  2. Chris says:

@Joshua: It’s still very much rubbish though.

Ahh Zubaz, the most 90s of trousers endorsed by Pro Wrestlers.

  4. Jonathan says:

Are they wearing Road Warriors endorsed Zubaz trousers?

  5. Anonymous says:

Sorry Chris, but this is flat-out hilarious. Completely tongue in cheek and loosely based off this famous video – http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x27ykw_chicago-bears-superbowl-shuffle_music

  6. Brando in KC says:

Sorry Chris, but this is flat-out hilarious. Completely tongue in cheek and loosely based off this famous video – http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x27ykw_chicago-bears-superbowl-shuffle_music

  7. Murray says:

The only crime in doing a sendoff on the Chicago Bears Super Bowl Shuffle (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x27ykw_chicago-bears-superbowl-shuffle_music) is not going all out.

  8. Brodie of Milton says:

One would most likely need to be a yank to know that this is a parody of the 1985 Chicago Bears “Super Bowl Shuffle” video made just prior to the Bears winning their first (and only) Super Bowl:

Nearly the entire adult male population of the U.S. over the age of 25 remembers the “Super Bowl Shuffle”, which is why I assume these MLS footballers thought it would be a laugh to make this video.

Clearly, both videos are absolutely impossible to watch in their entirety. I’d much rather listen to a group of toddlers cry, moan, and throw tantrums all day than to be forced to watch athletes rap, sing, dance, etc.

However I did find the 80′s clothing amusing, to be fair

  9. Jarren says:

The video has been taken down, but I think I found it via google:

To be fair Chris, our American friends have a point. It’s clearly tongue-in-cheek, and clearly meant to be totally shit.

    …but in a good way.

I mean, is this really much worse than New Order getting John Barnes to rap?

  10. krak says:

you got this one completely wrong, chris. perfect level of “meh” to make it funny.

  11. Wim Doomed says:

“We’re better than the best”? How is that possible? If “the best” is the pinnacle of better, how can one possibly transcend it? If it is possible, then “the best” is an illusion, an empty word devoid of meaning.

So really it means “we’re better than nothing”.

Thought so. I’d prefer nothing though.

  12. Ha! says:

Roma kicked the crap out of them. But it took Roma a whole 4 minutes!

  13. Toz says:

Reminds me of the “Anfield Rap” although John Barnes is still the best rapper around…
