The fan who momentarily interrupted the FA Cup clash between Eastleigh and Bolton at the weekend has been fined for his ‘ridiculous’ attempt to win back the affections of his ex-girlfriend.

51-year-old John Dynes’ big plan was to run onto the pitch, score a goal on Match of the Day and hope that would be enough to woo his estranged partner back into his arms.

Dynes took to the pitch wearing a grey sweatshirt with the words “Dreams Come True” scrawled across the chest and went hurtling into the penalty area, only to slip on his arse at the crucial moment.

He was then escorted from the pitch by stewards before being immediately arrested and charged with being a dipstick.

Charles Nightingale, prosecuting, told Southampton Magistrates’ Court:

He thought it would be the last chance to get his girlfriend back by getting on Match of the Day.

His intention was that he would run onto the pitch and attempt to score in the opposing goalmouth that he was running towards.

It was clearly a ridiculous course of action that caused a very significant disturbance to all of those who had paid to watch the match, although he had not taken any alcohol prior to making the decision to run on to the pitch.

Dynes subsequently admitted a charge of going on to a playing area at a football match without lawful authority or excuse.

He was then fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

The course of true love never did run smooth.
