It’s now just seven years until Russia host the World Cup and bananas are still being thrown at black players in their domestic leagues…
After refusing to rise to the bait after being issued with a banana by a racist Zenit supporter three months ago, it seems Carlos wasn’t prepared to take the repeat offence quite so lightly – substituting himself off in protest.
The Russian football league have vowed to launch an inquiry into the incident on Wednesday night, as have Krylya Sovetov – the club represented by the offending supporter.
