Christian Benteke brought an end to a goal drought spanning back almost one entire calendar year by putting Crystal Palace ahead at Arsenal on Sunday.

Some 358 days since he last troubled the net in any competition, Benteke stooped to head past Bernd Leno in the 17th minute…

First goal of the season, 34 games in. Good grief. Palace went on to win 3-2, leaving the Gunners clinging onto their top-four status by goal difference alone.

The goal above also happened to be Benteke’s 70th Premier League goal in his 200th game, his 69th coming 19 appearances ago against Leicester City way back in April 2018.

Yes, injuries have played their part, but for a strike whose last two transfers have carried a combined fee of almost £70million, that return is pretty terrible.
