Aston Villa just about escaped with a draw against bottom side Preston at home on Tuesday night – though it took a 91st-minute equaliser from Yannick Bolasie to do so.
Even then, there was still time for Glenn Whelan to miss a 97th-minute penalty before the jeers rang out around Villa Park once again.
Indeed, the protests began before kick-off when one particularly vexed fan hurled a cabbage at Steve Bruce…

Speaking after the game, Bruce was most definitely not amused by the vegetable-based barrage:
Unfortunately, it sums up the society we are in at the moment. There’s no respect for anyone.
Certainly for someone like him, I’m surprised he knew what a cabbage was. I find the whole thing hugely disrespectful.
Villa’s expensively-assembled mid-tablers are currently bobbing around in 12th place in the Championship, having mustered just one win in their last nine league outings.
If that doesn’t deserve a cabbage being catapulted in your general vicinity, then Pies don’t know what does.
