It’s taken him a few months, but Nicklas Bendtner finally got himself off the mark for Wolfsburg last night, scoring his first and second goals for the German club despite only coming on for the last 15 minutes of the Europa League tie against Krasnodar.

Wolfsburg cantered to a 5-1 victory over the Russian side at the Volkswagen Arena, with Bendtner latterly emerging from the dugout to knock home a penalty to make it 4-1 before putting the cap on the rout with a smartly-taken second goal…

Having caught wind of the Dane popping his Wolfsburg cherry, Match of the Day host Gary Lineker alerted his 3.2million Twitter followers to the fact with a Tweet of a distinctly sarky hue…

Then, shortly thereafter, Bendtner himself responded to Lineker’s jibe with an equally pithy retort…

The elite level of witty repartee obviously flummoxed Lineker who, well and truly stumped by Bendtner’s first-class badinage, simply whimpered forth this truly terrible comeback…

*Insert sound of balloon slowly deflating*

Expected more craic from Lineker, not a feeble “eh oh hi yeah”.
