A brace from captain Steven Gerrard secured a hard-fought win for Liverpool at The Cherry Red Records Stadium on Monday night.

The Reds legend headed home on 12 minutes after a Javier Manquillo centre and with an early goal under their belts, the Premier League side looked headed for an easy evening. However, the visitors failed to build on that goal and eventually found themselves pegged back by the Dons. The equaliser came on 36 minutes, courtesy of tubby hitman Adebayo Akinfenwa, after Simon Mignolet had failed to deal with a corner.

After the break, the Reds had the lion’s share of possession although the home side still posed a real threat going forward. However, just after the hour-mark Gerrard once again came to his side’s rescue, firing home a trademark free-kick after a foul on Philippe Coutinho. Liverpool had a number of chances to finish the game off before the end but ultimately they did enough to book their place in the fourth round.

Oof. You weren’t kidding about “tubby” – that man is a tank. I would say it gives us heavier fellas something to cheer for, but that just doesn’t look like a mobile boy.
