Brilliant tie, this. Reading were 1-0 and then 2-1 down, but they hung in there and when Brian Howard’s added-time strike sent the match into extra time, it was no surprise when Gylfi Sigurdsson popped up to curl in a brilliant goal from 20 yards out – Sigurdsson is a star in the making, as he has proved time and again in this competition this season. The only sour note was a handbags melee at the end of the tie, which saw Jobi McAnuff sent off for violent conduct.
Reading now face Aston Villa at home in the quarter finals. It’s a very tough tie, but one they can win. West Brom must now concentrate on automatic promotion to the Prem.
