Danny Rose reckons that Tottenham sending Arsenal packing from the Carabao Cup this week was “karma” for the Gunners’ overblown antics following their win in the corresponding league fixture a few weeks back.
The Gunners beat their rivals 4-2 at the Emirates in early December and promptly celebrated with a deluge of social media posts showing dressing room celebrations and references to being ‘The Kings of North London’ after valiantly soared above their vanquished foes in the table on goal difference.
Following Wednesday night’s dominant 2-0 cup win, Rose revealed that Spurs used Arsenal’s slightly unwarranted revelry as motivation for revenge.
Speaking to the Guardian, the full-back said:
We were fully relishing the opportunity. Our only motivation was remembering the nonsense that Arsenal posted after the game a few weeks ago. That was our motivation. Players that have only played 10 games for Arsenal were getting ahead of themselves. We used that in a positive way.
Karma is a … it’s a … you know. They fully deserve what they got, Arsenal.
We had the motivation of getting to the semi-final but the cherry on top was silencing them. Just remembering, they won a game at the beginning of December and they’re celebrating like they won the league.
We’re over the moon we’ve put that result right. We’ll see where they are come the end of the season and we’ll see where we are.
They obvious and inevitable retaliatory snipe being that no member of the current Spurs squad would actually recognise what winning the league feels like anyway.
And so continues the incessant bickering; tit for tat for tit for tat for tit for tat forever and ever.
These entrenched football rivalries really are a bit dull and repetitive from the outside, aren’t they?
