Coming hot on the heels of Germany’s 10-0 opening game win against Cote d’Ivoire, Switzerland batted minnows Ecuador on Friday night.
Pool old Angie Ponce netted two own-goals although the youngster did get a hat-trick of sorts when she scored a penalty on 64 minutes, which was her country’s first-ever goal a World Cup finals tournament.
Switzerland’s Fabienne Humm netted the fastest hat-trick in the history of the competition (between the 47th and 52nd minute) as the Europeans coasted to victory. While Ramona Bachmann also bagged herself three.
The game also equalled the record for most goals scored in a single Women’s World Cup game, equalling Germany’s 11-0 drubbing of Argentina in 2011.
Ecuador remain rock bottom of Group C with a -15 goal difference while the Swiss move into second, with Japan beating Cameroon 2-1.
