Despite being presented with a chance in slapstick fashion, Standard Liege made an almighty hash of a chance that would have put their Europa League clash with Sevilla well and truly to bed.
As the 93rd minute wicked away, a collision between Simon Kjaer and goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik presented Standard with a golden opportunity to extend their lead to 2-0 at the very death.
Unfortunately, three members of the Belgian side conspired to muck the whole thing up, culminating in Moussa Djenepo greedily poaching the ball off his teammate only to thwack the ball against the crossbar of an open goal…
Kudos are definitely due to Vaclik for the original clawed save, but the mess that followed – that was all almost unforgivably bad.
Some of the heat was taken off Djenepo for scoring Standard’s decisive goal earlier in the night, but still…
