Manchester United loanee Nick Powell made history last night by scoring Wigan’s first ever goal in European football to spark the Latics’ first ever victory in European football in their first ever European home game when the midfielder – playing as a makeshift forward – headed in the opening goal against Maribor in the Europa League last night, though he wasn’t finished there, oh no.
Come the 90th minute, with Wigan leading 2-1, Powell fleshed out the win when he composed himself for a second out on the right flank and began skipping through Maribor’s defence as he made his way to the edge of the box before angling a calm finish past ‘keeper Jasmin Handanovic (“Princess” to his mates) to make it three for Owen Coyle’s boys…
Nicely done.
