A French DJ has apologised after partially spoiling what should have been an historic night for Lyon forward Ada Hegerberg, who won the first ever women’s Ballon d’Or award in Paris on Monday night.
While accepting the trophy on stage, Hegerberg was asked by DJ Martin Solveig (who was compering the gala) if she knew how to twerk – a comment that visibly took the sheen off the moment for the Norwegian, a three-time Champions League winner.
For the record, Solveig did not ask the same thing of Luka Modric when he was presented with the men’s award.
After answering his question with a curt “no”, Hegerberg then performed an awkward waltz-type dance with Solveig before making her exit.
Talking afterwards, Hederberg said:
He (Solveig) came to me afterwards and was really sad that it went that way.
I didn’t really think about it at the time to be honest. I didn’t really consider it a sexual harassment or anything in the moment.
The DJ has since offered a half-apology, explaining it was an attempt at humour that fell flat and that he has been a huge respecter of women for the last 20 years.
Thankfully, his crass interjection didn’t appear to fully ruin Hegerberg’s special evening, with the 23-year-old simply refused to dwell on it any longer than she had to…

Imagine playing your way to the very top of your profession and then having some moron steal all your thunder in a nanosecond.
What should have gone down as an historic night for Hegerberg and for women’s football will now forever be remember as ‘the night DJ Dummkopf made that stupid comment’.
Sigh.
