Southampton 0-0 Everton – Premier League – 21st January 2013
New Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino will have been pleased by his new team’s display on Monday night, as the Saints matched Everton all the way and were unlucky not to finish the game with all three points in the bag.
The home side dominated for much of the first period, with only the woodwork denying Rickie Lambert a goal. However, after the break, the Toffees fought back, with Marouane Fellaini, Victor Anichebe and Nikica Jelavic (with a bad miss) all going close.
The Saints stood firm despite the Everton pressure and coudld have nicked it themselves late on, only for Lambert’s header to sail over the bar.
The draw sees the Saints move four points clear of the drop-zone while Everton stay fifth.
