Liverpool 3-1 Napoli – Steven Gerrard Hat-Trick Saves The Day, Aronica Gets Away With Horror Tackle On Ngog

By Ollie Irish

This was a game of two defined halves: the half without Stevie G (meh) and the half with it (wahay!). Talk about polishing a turd – Gerrard’s second-half hat-trick really put the gloss on Liverpool’s performance.

If we had Liverpool pegged as a two-man team, looks like we were wrong; these days they’re a one-man team (with apologies to Pepe Reina, whose excellence is taken for granted). Heaven help LFC if Gerrard chooses to broaden his horizons. Unlikely, mind.

And you know what grinds my gears? Tackles like the one Napoli defender Salvatore Aronica made on David Ngog last night. A potential leg breaker and a straight red every time. Even worse than the fact he stayed on the pitch, it appeared that Aronia knew exactly what he was doing in going for Ngog’s shin. You can watch the tackle in the highlights video below (at 2min 30secs):

Dreadful. If that isn’t worthy of a retrospective ban, I don’t know what is.

wow. just wow. i wasnt expecting that- thats the kind that makes you expect to see 2 bones sticking out of his sock afterwards

  2. Josh says:

i’m surprised that didn’t get a whole horror tackles article by itself. Lucky for Ngog he could limp that off.

  3. Me says:

You could make a decent Slaphead Fc five-a-side team out of Liverpool.

    Reina
    Skrtel
    Shelvey Meireles
    N’gog

    subs: Konchesky, Spearing

  4. PhilandoTorres says:

Fair play to Ngog too for not appealing for a red.

  5. sue peace says:

Stevie g best liverpool player ever!

  6. Mark says:

@Philandro: Agreed. Proves Ngog’s got a more matured head on him than most give him credit for. I really fancy him coming to his own this season in the Europa Lge.

Hope UEFA takes action against Aronica. Though knowing their All Talk No Action style, it’s unlikely. Wtf do you have 5 referees out there if not a single one of them has the balls to make the right call? Piss off Platini. Get the video technology in NOW!

    Broaden his horizons? Fuck off.
