Manchester City 1-0 Everton – Premier League – 6th December 2014

Manchester City made sure to capitalise on Chelsea’s slip up against Newcastle, with the Citizens win against Everton moving them to within three points of Jose Mourinho’s league leaders.

In a tight, tense game where both sides had chances, it was a contentious penalty decision which would ultimately decide the clash. England man Phil Jagielka was rather harshly adjudged to have fouled James Milner in the Toffees’ box by ref Andre Marriner, with Yaya Touré converting the resulting spot-kick. The Citizens could have scored more goals although Joe Hart’s superb save from Romelu Lukaku proved key for the Premier League title-holders.

While City keep the pressure on Chelsea, Everton are now a disappointing Everton. However, despite the win, the loss of Sergio Aguero to a knee injury early on could have a major impact on Manuel Pellegrini’s hopes of staying in touch with the Blues over the Christmas period.

No mention of the two red card offences not given? A karate kick to the back and a kick in the face… both yellow cards. The ref was abysmal.

  2. Straight Dave says:

Ridiculous penalty decision? Check. City continuing the game with 11 men despite two obvious red cards not given? Check. Opposing team offering very little to try and get back in the game? Check. Sounds like a typical City game at the Etihad to me.

its bloody hard to play against 12 men

  4. Dave says:

Always the same playing one of the sky 4. But even with that Marriner had an awful game… Total homer.

  5. syndex says:

Its fair to say he was all at sea in that game.
