Wayne Rooney gave us all a glimpse of his wild halcyon days with a match-winning assist at the very final seconds of DC United’s 3-2 victory over Orlando in MLS on Sunday evening.
With the score level at 2-2 and stoppage time very nearly elapsed, Orlando overturned a DC attack and began breaking up-field toward their opponents’ vacated goal.
Despite a clear headstart, Rooney managed to chase Will Johnson down, rob him of possession with a full-blooded slide tackle and proceed to return a perfect 45-yard pass into the box which Luciano Acosta dispatched to complete his hat-trick and secure a dramatic win.
Vintage stuff, like from before Rooney was house trained.
