The Seattle Sounders beat the Colorado Rapids 1-0 on the Rapids’ patch last night, but the game was mired by the fact that, just three minutes in, Sounders starlet Steve Zakuani (who, I think I’m right in saying, had trials with Everton not so very long ago) suffered a horrific injury – with a overly-heavy, mis-timed tackle from Brian Mullan snapping the youngsters’ leg in twain.
Tibia and fibula – kaput.
Warning for those of you with squeamish dispositions: the bone snap is picked up by the pitch-side microphone…

Yeesh.
Mullan was red-carded for his efforts and Zakuani later underwent successful surgery – though the forward is still expected to miss the next five months of the Sounders’ schedule.
Get well soon boyo.
