Burnley Rename Stand After Flogging Sponsorship Rights – Fancy A Seat In ‘The Totally Wicked Bob Lord Stand’ At Turf Moor?
By Chris Wright
A couple of days after Sheffield United announced that soon their fans would be able to take a seat in Jessica Ennis’ lower tier comes the news that Burnley are to rename one of the stands at Turf Moor after signing a sponsorship deal with a Lancashire company that specialises in electronic cigarettes and the like.
The stand in question is the famous old Bob Lord Stand (Burnley’s long-serving chairman from 1955 through to 1981, who oversaw the club’s League and Cup wins in the early 60s), the company in question is called ‘Totally Wicked’ – meaning that the new stand will be officially christened ‘The Totally Wicked Bob Lord Stand’.
Of the many attributes Bob Lord possessed – he became known as ‘The Khrushchev of Burnley’ in press circles due to his aggressively dismissive attitude toward both journalists and televised football – being ‘totally wicked’ was not one.
