Why Sven can’t be the next Chelsea manager
September 26th, 2007
Does anyone else think that it’s funny that the British press seemingly wants Sven Goran Eriksson as the new Chelsea boss? It seems a little more than ironic that the same press who dragged the Swede over the coals for his drab tactics and dour approach whilst at the helm of the England side, seemingly feel that he’s the man to keep Roman Abramovich happy with beautiful free flowing football in the demise of Jose Mourinho’s tenure….

The best striker in the Premier League? It’s John Carew, of course
September 21st, 2007
Who is the best striker in the Premier League at the moment? Well, according to the league’s in-form defender it is none other than Aston Villa rent-a-tree John Carew. Manchester City and England starlet Micah Richards reckons the 6ft 5in Norwegian – worth exactly one Milan Baros – has been his toughest opponent so far this season.
Do you know who this devilishly handsome brute is?
September 12th, 2007
If you’re shouting names at your computer screen now, there’s a new football quiz that might be right up your street. It’s called Who The Chicken Hell Are You? (clever) and it’s thanks to the betting into folk at Chicken Dinner.
Frankly some of the chickeny quizes are easier than pulling a chav in KFC. We got 12 out of 12 in the “When We Were Young Category” where you supposed to guess who the player is from their youth team mug shot. That’s worryingly easy since we’ve only got two GCSEs and a certificate officially labeling us “special”. However the other categories, are more taxing, more fun, and frankly if someone doesn’t tell us who the top right bloke in the “receeding” section is soon we might burst.
Anyway if you like quizzes, get there now by clicking the word quiztastic. And don’t forget to let us know how you scored…

Carling Cup review: Michael Owen scores first competitive goal since 2005 and Man City march on
August 30th, 2007

He’s still got it! When Little Michael Owen tucked the ball under the body of Barnsely’s keeper and into the net, it was the first time he’d scored in a competitive game since December 2005, some 20 months ago. The finish was a bit scuffed, but still, Owen thrives on goals, and this is welcome news both for Newcastle and England.

Kasper Schmeichel concedes a goal, aged six
August 23rd, 2007
This video shows something that is a bit of a rarity at the moment: Kasper Schmeichel conceding a goal. But here he is Peter’s lad aged six conceding a sloppy goal in the Old Trafford tunnel. Steve Bruce’s son Alex, currently playing at Ipswich, is the man who beats him at his near post.
A-Level student receives Sven’s transfer offers by text
August 17th, 2007
A student has been receiving good luck messages and player offers intended for Sven Goran Eriksson. Christina Tambaros was assigned the number used by Eriksson when he was England boss after he quit last year. The 17-year-old received messages from former Charlton boss Les Reed and PFA chairman Gordon Taylor, and an offer to take Inter Milan midfielder Aparecido Rodrigues Cesar on a free transfer from his agent.

Manchester City chairman is a wanted man
August 14th, 2007
Thailand’s Supreme Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and Manchester City chairman, on corruption charges. Shinawatra failed to attend court in Bangkok as the court was to hear the first of a series of cases being brought against the former leader, who was ousted in a military coup last year…
Kit Parade Special: New Premier League Home Kits, Part Two & Vote
August 11th, 2007
Kits & fashion
Following yesterday’s imaginatively titled Part One, today Pies profiles the home kits of the 10 Premiership teams who would have their names called at last on the school register.
There is a hint of baseball to Citeh’s new shirt, with its rather fetching white pinstripes. Reebok are out and French brand Le Coq Sportif (currently enjoying a Lazarus-style revival) are in. Last season’s white sleeves are also ditched, and on reflection it is probably a good call. Click here to buy it from Kitbag.

With the news that our bosses have set up a special Man United Pies blog, it’s worth remembering that most Mancunians count themselves as City fans…
Manchester City want Antonio Cassano – here comes trouble?
August 9th, 2007
Ever heard of Antonio Cassano? He’s like Italy’s answer to Craig Bellamy – cool finisher with a hot head and an overrated opinion of himself who regularly falls out with teammates and managers alike.
Sven Goran Eriksson appointed Manchester United manager (by himself)
August 6th, 2007
Sven just can’t help putting his foot in it. It comes naturally to him, as do negative tactics and poor substitutions. Here he is asking new signing Valeri Bojinov how it feels to have signed for Manchester United! Valeri probably got all excited for a couple of seconds until the howls of the watching media kick in!
Barton in bother again after smacking someone (yawn)
August 2nd, 2007
Finish drinking your tea. You don’t want to spit it everywhere when you hear some really shocking news. You’ll never guess. Joey Barton has been charged with assault after an alleged training ground bust-up with a former team-mate. *faints*
Man City beat Spurs to Martin Petrov’s signature
July 26th, 2007
Sven has beaten Spurs to the signing of Bulgarian international, Martin Petrov, following a £4.7m deal that brings him to Manchester City from Athletico Madrid.
Sven to bring Nery Castillo to Manchester City
July 24th, 2007
Sven Goran Eriksson is set to bring another new striker to Manchester City. I know that many Pies fans would love us to be able to reveal that the Swede’s dream partnership is Rolando Bianchi and Emile Heskey, but alas Sven’s love affair with clumsy Emile seems to be over. No, this does actually seem to be a pretty shrewd purchase, which leads us to believe Sven had little or nothing to do with it!
Sven signs Geovanni

Here’s his goal in that match and ‘Arry telling us what a ‘clever footballer’ he is – surely, an oxymoron?

Top Ten Transfers…so far
July 16th, 2007
There are bound to be a few more twists to this year’s transfer season, especially if someone remembers where they put Carlos Tevez’s ownership papers, but new TV money and the arrival of more glory hunting billionaires means there’s been plenty of action.
Here’s what we think are the ten best deals done so far:
Thaksin Shinawatra shows Manchester City fans his true colours
July 16th, 2007
They could overlook the corruption allegations and even his dubious human rights record, but this might be taking it a bit too far for Manchester City fans. Here is the former Thai Prime Minister proudly holding his United shirt aloft as Fergie looks on.
Shit Lookalikes: Sven Goran Eriksson & Roland Andersson and The Proclaimers
June 26th, 2007
Sven is set to take the Manchester City job and is apparently hoping to make Sweden assistant manager Roland Andersson his number two (schoolboy snigger). Rumour has it the duo would be quite happy to walk 500 miles just to be the men to take over at Eastlands.
