  Does anyone else think that it’s funny that the British press seemingly wants Sven Goran Eriksson as the new Chelsea boss? It seems a little more than ironic that the same press who dragged the Swede over the coals for his drab tactics and dour approach whilst at the helm of the England side, seemingly feel that he’s the man to keep Roman Abramovich happy with beautiful free flowing football in the demise of Jose Mourinho’s tenure….

• The best striker in the Premier League? It’s John Carew, of course September 21st, 2007 Aston Villa

  
  Who is the best striker in the Premier League at the moment? Well, according to the league’s in-form defender it is none other than Aston Villa rent-a-tree John Carew. Manchester City and England starlet Micah Richards reckons the 6ft 5in Norwegian – worth exactly one Milan Baros – has been his toughest opponent so far this season.

  If you’re shouting names at your computer screen now, there’s a new football quiz that might be right up your street. It’s called Who The Chicken Hell Are You? (clever) and it’s thanks to the betting into folk at Chicken Dinner.
  Frankly some of the chickeny quizes are easier than pulling a chav in KFC. We got 12 out of 12 in the “When We Were Young Category” where you supposed to guess who the player is from their youth team mug shot. That’s worryingly easy since we’ve only got two GCSEs and a certificate officially labeling us “special”. However the other categories, are more taxing, more fun, and frankly if someone doesn’t tell us who the top right bloke in the “receeding” section is soon we might burst.

• Carling Cup review: Michael Owen scores first competitive goal since 2005 and Man City march on August 30th, 2007 Man City

  He’s still got it! When Little Michael Owen tucked the ball under the body of Barnsely’s keeper and into the net, it was the first time he’d scored in a competitive game since December 2005, some 20 months ago. The finish was a bit scuffed, but still, Owen thrives on goals, and this is welcome news both for Newcastle and England.

  Cesc Fabregas finally found a breakthrough, despite an excellent performance from Manchester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. The young Dane made a string of saves, including Robin van Persie’s 65th minute penalty.

  This video shows something that is a bit of a rarity at the moment: Kasper Schmeichel conceding a goal. But here he is Peter’s lad aged six conceding a sloppy goal in the Old Trafford tunnel. Steve Bruce’s son Alex, currently playing at Ipswich, is the man who beats him at his near post.

• A-Level student receives Sven’s transfer offers by text August 17th, 2007 Man City

  A student has been receiving good luck messages and player offers intended for Sven Goran Eriksson. Christina Tambaros was assigned the number used by Eriksson when he was England boss after he quit last year. The 17-year-old received messages from former Charlton boss Les Reed and PFA chairman Gordon Taylor, and an offer to take Inter Milan midfielder Aparecido Rodrigues Cesar on a free transfer from his agent.

  Sven made a triumphant return to English football at the weekend when his new look Manchester City side outplayed Spurs with some of the weekend’s most attractive football.

• Manchester City chairman is a wanted man August 14th, 2007 Man City

  Thailand’s Supreme Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and Manchester City chairman, on corruption charges. Shinawatra failed to attend court in Bangkok as the court was to hear the first of a series of cases being brought against the former leader, who was ousted in a military coup last year…

  Sven has beaten Spurs to the signing of Bulgarian international, Martin Petrov, following a £4.7m deal that brings him to Manchester City from Athletico Madrid.

• Sven to bring Nery Castillo to Manchester City July 24th, 2007 Man City

  Sven Goran Eriksson is set to bring another new striker to Manchester City. I know that many Pies fans would love us to be able to reveal that the Swede’s dream partnership is Rolando Bianchi and Emile Heskey, but alas Sven’s love affair with clumsy Emile seems to be over. No, this does actually seem to be a pretty shrewd purchase, which leads us to believe Sven had little or nothing to do with it!
