  • Arsenal introduce the mid-game exodus July 20th, 2007 Arsenal

The fourth offical at Arsenal’s friendly with Genclerbirligi must be pleased he was relieved from electronic board duty for this mammoth, seven-man substitution. In fact, he wore himself out just walking down the queue to check the studs!

  • Thierry Henry splits from wife July 17th, 2007 Arsenal

Some new light has been shone on Thierry Henry’s exit from Arsenal and his even-more miserable-than-usual manner for most of last season. It has emerged that the new Barcelona man has split from his English model wife, Claire. The Sun claimed Henry said: “I didn’t really want to leave Arsenal — they’re my favourite club and I loved playing for them. But lots of things have changed recently and I had to get away from everything English, including my wife unfortunately.”

  • Top Ten Transfers…so far July 16th, 2007 Arsenal

1torres.jpgThere are bound to be a few more twists to this year’s transfer season, especially if someone remembers where they put Carlos Tevez’s ownership papers, but new TV money and the arrival of more glory hunting billionaires means there’s been plenty of action.
Here’s what we think are the ten best deals done so far:

  • Are Arsenal’s players too small to compete in the Premiership? July 16th, 2007 Arsenal

Gunnerblog makes an interesting point about Arsenal’s current squad in its match report of the Gunners’ 2-0 friendly win at Barnet this weekend: ‘One man who wasn’t in the side despite his presence at Underhill was Eduardo [da Silva]. Worryingly, he is very very slight in the flesh (as you can see from the picture). If a breeze had struck up, he might well’ve blown over. People talk about missing [Thierry] Henry’s speed and finishing prowess, but let’s not forget that the man was six-foot plus and incredibly powerful. Our already small team is getting smaller.’

  • Arsenal to swoop for Argentine Rodrigo Palacio July 16th, 2007 Arsenal

Palacio%2C%20rodrigo.JPGArsene Wenger has been mesmerised by pendulum-like rat-tail Horror Hair of Argentinian striker Rodrigo Palacio and is preparing to make a £15 million move for him. The 25-year-old had been linked with a transfer to Barcelona, but they have since purchased a little-known striker by the name of Thierry Henry.

  • Cesc Fabregas: I did speak to Real Madrid but I’m staying at Arsenal July 13th, 2007 Arsenal

fabregas_0607charlton.jpgArsenal fans will be delighted to learn that Cesc Fabregas has turned down a move to Real Madrid and pledged his future to Arsenal. The 20-year-old Spanish midfielder had been linked with a return to his native country for several weeks and the speculation wouldn’t go away. Fabregas revealed he has spoken to Real, but was persuaded to stay at Arsenal by Arsene Wenger.

  • The Arsene Wenger soundboard July 12th, 2007 Arsenal

fasoiyhfaosihfishf.pngSeveral minutes’ worth of fun to be had from this Arsene Wenger soundboard. I can’t understand why there’s no ‘I didn’t see the incident you speak of…’ but apart from that, it’s pure Wenger, with a fine range of ‘errs’ and other choice gems, such as ‘It is not a long hard thing’ and ‘Don’t force it anymore’.

  • Horror Hair: Bakary Sagna July 12th, 2007 Arsenal

Sagna%20hair.JPGNew Arsenal signing Bakary Sagna will certainly light up the Premiership with his peroxide barnet, even if we do have to wait until the Eboue is away at the African Nations Cup to get a proper look at him. Looking like the lovechild of Taribo West and a Backstreet Boy, Sagna is the latest in a series of black footballers who seem to believe that Premiership managers prefer blonds. Someone ought to tell him he needs his roots doing though!

  • Arsenal sign right-back Bakari Sagna from Auxerre July 11th, 2007 Arsenal

0%2C%2C2007311935%2C00.jpgBakari who? you may well ask. Bakari Sagna, that’s who. He’s a 24-year-old right-back, signed by Arsene Wenger from Auxerre, for a reported £6-7m. Sagna’s arrival, on a five-year contract, may herald a move into midfield for the ever-likeable Emmanuel Eboue, particularly as Freddie Ljungberg looks set to leave the Gunners for Fiorentina.

  • FRIENDLY WATCH: Barnet v Arsenal, Sat 14 July July 11th, 2007 Arsenal

74138404.jpgBarnet host Arsenal in a pre-season friendly this Saturday at 3pm, in a North London clash of the haves and the have-nots. The match is Arsenal’s first competitive game of the new season, so it will be interesting to see what sort of a team Arsene Wenger chooses to field. I’d imagine he’ll ring the changes and make as many substitutions as possible.

  • Liverpool bid for Babel July 9th, 2007 Arsenal

Liverpool have apparently made a bid for Dutch U-21 star Ryan Babel. The Ajax forward is rated as the brightest young prospect in Dutch football by none other than Marco van Basten and has already been linked to Arsenal and Newcastle – whadyareckon?

  • Greatest Foreign Imports First XI July 6th, 2007 Arsenal

Some say nostalgia isn’t what it used to be. But now that another icon, Monsieur Henry, has left our league we took a moment to reflect on the finest overseas imports that have ever played in the Premiership.

  • THE VOTE Can Eduardo da Silva really fill the boots of Thierry Henry? July 5th, 2007 Arsenal

A silly question you might think, but one that needs asking. Da Silva is unproven and talented – just as Thierry Henry was when he first came to Arsenal. So do you think Arsene Wenger has unearthed another diamond in the rough, or will Da Silva struggle to make an impact in the Premiership?

  • Shit lookalike: Eduardo da Silva and Prince July 3rd, 2007 Arsenal

Thanks to long-time friend of Pies, Daryl, for suggesting our latest Shit Lookalike. It looks like Arsenal may have acquired The Artist Formerly Known As Prince as they attempted to fill the gaping hole in their strikeforce formerly filled by Thierry Henry.

  • Meet ze new Thierry Henry: Eduardo Alves da Silva July 2nd, 2007 Arsenal

da%20Silva.jpgArsenal have made their first attempt to replace Thierry Henry by snapping up Croatia striker Eduardo da Silva from Dinamo Zagreb for an undisclosed fee. You will probably best remember the 24-year-old as the player – other than Gary Neville – who scored in Croatia’s victory over England in the Euro 2008 qualifier last October.

  • Tevez to stay in the Premiership? June 29th, 2007 Arsenal

Tevez.jpgCarlos Tevez has apparently turned down Inter Milan after the Serie A champions attempted to play hardball by imposing a deadline for him to make a decision – suggesting he could yet stay in the Premiership.

  • Shit Lookalike: Cesc Fabregas and the Haribo Kid June 29th, 2007 Arsenal

Allegedly soon-to-be Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas seems to have been separated at birth from the Haribo Kid – or is he just trying to mould his hair on Deco to ensure that he takes his place in Barca’s midfield as effectively as possible.

  • TH14 – the goals 3 June 26th, 2007 Arsenal

We can empathise will Arsenal fans at the moment. They’ve lost their greatest goal scorer, there’s uncertainty over Wenger’s future and even Les Miserables himself, Nikolas Anelka, could be making a prodigal return.
So, in our last look at Henry’s greatest goals we’ve saved one that will even raise a smile from Gunners that are still getting over seeing him in a Barca shirt earlier today

  • Will Spurs finish above Arsenal next season? June 26th, 2007 Arsenal

Now that Gooner talisman Thierry Henry has left for Barcelona, how do you feel Arsenal’s squad matches up against Spurs? Personally, I feel the two squads are as evenly matched as at any time since the Premiership began. I also feel that Spurs have their best chance in years of finishing above Arsenal next season. Let’s take a look at how the squads currently match-up:

  • TH14 – the goals 2 June 26th, 2007 Arsenal

He may be gone but at least we’ve still got the memories of arguably the greatest foreign import ever to grace the Premiership.
Thierry scored a record breaking 226 goals for his old flame Arsenal and tap-ins were about as rare as a Henry header. Our second great goal from the French master even seems to defy physics with a cheeky back heel scored against Charlton, 2004.

  • Tuesday 10: Thierry Henry quotes June 26th, 2007 Arsenal

ThierryHenryquotes.jpg1 “In my head I’m still an Arsenal player and my departure is not a current issue.”
Responding to speculation linking him with a move to Barca a couple of weeks ago with a very honest answer…

  • TH14 DAY – The goals 1 June 25th, 2007 Arsenal

Now that he’s actually left, it’s not just the Gooners that will miss the mercurial talents of Monsieur Henry. We can do without the his hands on hips sulking, love of girls’ cars and the arrogant, brooding celebrations…but we’ll miss the goals.

  • Classic Moment: Thierry Henry gets his first Barcelona shirt June 25th, 2007 Arsenal

Serial pitch invader turned minor celebrity Jimmy Jump gives TH14 his first Barcelona shirt during the Arsenal v Villareal Champions League semi-final in 2006. It seems pretty obvious now that Henry wanted to move to Barca last season and only the effect that losing a Champions League final to them had on his emotional Gallic self prevented him from doing so.

  • TH14 DAY – Thierry’s wrong-foot trick June 24th, 2007 Arsenal

I tried to do this myself, but ended up flat on my face. Much more difficult than it looks – it’s the football equivalent of rubbing your stomach whilst patting your head, only about 10 times more difficult. I’d love to see him pass to Ronaldinho like this…
